Application server is valid, but the Data server cannot be accessed.

"Application server is valid, but the Data server cannot be accessed."

elligence uses an Application Server title (where the program runs) and a Data Server title (which holds the data.) These "two" servers can, in some cases, run on the same physical computers, but both jobs need to be done in order for elligence to function properly.

You are having problems logging in for one of two reasons:

  1. The Application Server cannot talk to the Data Server at all.
  2. The Data Server is not properly configured - either elligence has not been installed, or the database has become corrupted.

Before we proceed any further, I need to make sure that you know which Application Server you are logging into. If you do not properly enter your Application Server, then we can't proceed. The Application Server name is the name that appears in the box to the right of your Username and Password when you log into elligence.

Now, let's find out what your Data Server is named. "dsdlshared.ini" is a file that tells the elligence server some configuration information. Look for the line that says DataServer=something. Make a note of what it says on that line, after the equal-sign (=). This is your Data Server.

If you are asked which program you'd like to use to open the file, select Notepad.

Now that you've done that, we're going to test whether or not Microsoft SQL Server is running on the data server. Click here to open the Query Inspector Utility. Log in with your elligence username and password, and enter the Data Server name in the Server field.

  • I got a message that says "Server does not exist or access is denied".
  • I could log in just fine.
